Butterfly Kohaku combines the classic red-on-white Kohaku pattern — the most prestigious koi variety — with the dramatic longfin butterfly mutation, giving the fish an elegant trailing fin display as it glides through water. Highly popular in the Dutch and Belgian decorative pond market for its combination of traditional koi aesthetics and flowing fin elegance.
Care Guide
Requires a large, well-filtered pond (2,000L+). Feed quality koi pellets appropriate to season. Reduce feeding below 10°C and stop below 6°C. Provide minimum 1m depth for winter. The longfins require excellent water quality to remain healthy — poor water leads to fin fraying. Monitor for common koi parasites.
