About

Cichla ocellaris is the most recognisable peacock bass, characterised by its row of lateral blotches and the striking ocellus on the caudal peduncle that gives it its common name. A powerful and active fish that requires massive filtration and an enormous aquarium to thrive.

Care Guide

Water: 26-30°C, pH 6.0-7.5, soft to moderately hard. Tank: Minimum 800L, powerful filtration, open water with minimal decoration. Feeding: Large fish, prawns, earthworms, and large carnivore pellets. Behaviour: Aggressive predator that will eat any fish that fits in its mouth. Compatibility: Species-only or with very large, robust companions; not a community fish.
