Carassius auratus
Also known as: Butterfly Tail Goldfish, Butterfly Telescope, Top-view Goldfish
Origin: China
The Butterfly Tail Telescope is a premium fancy goldfish prized for its tail fins that spread horizontally in a perfect butterfly shape when viewed from above. This viewing angle is preferred by hobbyists who keep them in shallow tanks or tubs. It combines the visual traits of both the telescope eye and butterfly tail, requiring experienced care.
Water: 10–22°C, pH 6.5–7.5, very clean water — best in shallow, well-filtered setups. Tank: minimum 150 L; traditional tub or pond setups let you appreciate the butterfly view from above. Feeding: sinking pellets and frozen foods placed directly in front of the fish. Behaviour: graceful and slow; the elaborate tail limits its swimming speed. Compatibility: other fancy goldfish with limited mobility; never with fast or nippy species.
