Also known as: Cairns Rainbowfish

Cairnsichthys rhombosomoides is endemic to a small number of rainforest streams in the Cairns region of far north Queensland, making it one of the most geographically restricted rainbowfish in Australia. Its distinctive rhombus-shaped body scales give it its scientific name. A delicate and specialist species rarely available in the trade, highly prized by Australian native fish enthusiasts.
Water: 22–28°C, pH 6.5–7.5, soft to moderately hard, clean water. Tank: 60 L+, well-planted with open swimming areas and regular water changes. Feeding: Omnivore; small flakes, micro-pellets, and frozen/live foods. Behaviour: Peaceful, active schooling fish; shy and retiring in large or busy setups. Compatibility: Best with other small peaceful Australian rainbowfish or nano species.
