Carassius auratus
Also known as: Calico Telescope, Calico Moor, Fancy Goldfish
Origin: China
The Calico Telescope Eye presents a stunning mosaic of colors on a fancy egg-shaped body, complemented by the dramatic globe-like protruding eyes. Every individual has a unique color pattern due to the nacreous scaling. Its limited vision requires a well-planned aquarium with food delivered directly to the fish.
Water: 10–22°C, pH 6.5–7.5, excellent filtration as goldfish are prolific waste producers. Tank: minimum 120 L, remove any sharp decorations that could scratch the protruding eyes. Feeding: sinking foods target-fed to the fish; varied diet for vibrant color maintenance. Behaviour: curious and social despite poor eyesight; learns tank layout over time. Compatibility: telescope-eye varieties; avoid any species that might bully or outcompete it.
