Meiacanthus oualanensis
Origin: Western Pacific, Tonga
The Canary Blenny is a vibrant all-yellow fang blenny that brings intense colouration to reef aquariums. Like other Meiacanthus species, it possesses venomous rear canine teeth used solely as last-resort defence and is entirely peaceful in its interactions with other reef inhabitants. Its active midwater swimming and striking yellow colouration make it one of the most visually impactful small blennies.
Provide rock crevices for shelter though it prefers to swim actively in open water. Feed mysis, copepods, and fine marine foods 2–3 times daily. Peaceful toward all reef fish and invertebrates — venomous fangs are purely defensive. Reef-safe. Secure lid recommended. Keep one per tank in systems under 300 L to avoid territorial disputes.
