Halichoeres chrysus
Origin: Indo-Pacific
Halichoeres chrysus, the Canary Wrasse or Yellow Wrasse, is a solidly bright yellow wrasse popular for reef tanks. Unlike many wrasses it is completely reef safe — it does not consume ornamental invertebrates or corals. Highly active, it patrols the middle of the water column constantly. It is also one of the few wrasses known to consume pyramid snails (Stomatella) and small flatworms, making it a beneficial addition beyond its ornamental value. Buries itself in sand at night.
Minimum 4–5 cm deep sand bed for sleeping. Reef safe with corals and most invertebrates. Temperature 22–27 °C, standard reef parameters. Feed meaty foods: mysis, brine shrimp, pellets. Provide open swimming space. Jump-proof lid recommended.
