Betta splendens
Also known as: Candy Betta, Pastel Betta, Multicolour Betta
Origin: Southeast Asia
Candy bettas are bred for the broadest possible colour range, typically incorporating soft pastel blues, pinks, yellows, and whites alongside deeper hues. No two candy bettas are identical, as the pattern is the product of complex multicolour genetic combinations. Their cheerful, kaleidoscopic appearance makes them immediately appealing.
Water: 26-30°C, pH 6.0-7.5, soft to medium hardness — pristine water keeps the pastel tones vibrant. Tank: minimum 20L, planted; pastel colouration is enhanced by natural-looking aquascapes. Feeding: carnivore — betta pellets, frozen bloodworm, daphnia; twice daily in small amounts. Behaviour: males are territorial — one per tank; a charming and active display fish. Compatibility: peaceful community aquariums; one of the most popular betta gifts for beginners.
