Caquetaia myersi
Origin: Caquetá and Putumayo rivers, Colombia and Peru
Myers' Cichlid is a large, predatory South American cichlid from the Caquetá and Putumayo rivers of Colombia and Peru, with a highly protrusible mouth used to engulf surprisingly large prey. Its body is a beautiful golden-olive to cream with a reticulated scale pattern and dark lateral markings that intensify during breeding. A powerful and charismatic species prized by dedicated large cichlid keepers.
Requires a very large aquarium (500L+) with sturdy decor that cannot be rearranged easily — these powerful fish rearrange everything. Feed meaty foods: large cichlid pellets, whole prawns, fish fillets, earthworms. Keep singly or as a bonded pair. Not compatible with small fish. Strong filtration essential. Spectacular display fish for the large cichlid specialist.
