Caridina babaulti var. 'Blue'
Also known as: Blue Babaulti Shrimp, Indian Blue Shrimp
Origin: India and Sri Lanka
The blue morph of Caridina babaulti hails from the freshwaters of India and displays a striking sky-blue to teal body coloration that is entirely natural and free of selective breeding interference. Unlike blue Taiwan Bee variants that demand extremely soft, acidic, low-TDS water, C. babaulti blue tolerates a broader range of parameters including moderately hard water, making it accessible to intermediate shrimp keepers. An active grazer of biofilm, algae, and detritus, this species thrives in planted aquariums with abundant surface area for foraging. A peaceful, community-compatible invertebrate that adds a distinctive cool-blue accent to freshwater displays.
Water: pH 6.5–7.5, TDS 100–250 ppm, temperature 22–28°C; moderately soft to medium water acceptable. Tank: 20–40 litres; planted with mosses and fine substrate; gentle sponge filtration. Feeding: Biofilm, algae, blanched vegetables, shrimp pellets. Breeding: Females brood 15–30 eggs; relatively forgiving of minor parameter fluctuations. Compatibility: Peaceful; compatible with small fish and other invertebrates.
