Caridina babaulti var. 'Green'
Also known as: Green Babaulti Shrimp, Indian Green Shrimp, Babaulti Green
Origin: India and Sri Lanka
The green morph of Caridina babaulti is native to freshwater streams and rice paddies of India and Southeast Asia. Its vivid olive-to-emerald green coloration is entirely natural and unmodified, making it a refreshing alternative to selectively bred shrimp for hobbyists who appreciate wild-type color. Compared to fancy Caridina like Crystal Reds, C. babaulti is considerably more adaptable, tolerating moderate water hardness and a wider pH range. They are active biofilm and algae grazers, and their green coloration pairs beautifully with red or dark substrates in planted aquariums. A robust, prolific species well-suited to intermediate and beginner shrimp keepers.
Water: pH 6.5–7.5, TDS 100–250 ppm, temperature 22–28°C; adaptable to moderately soft to medium-hard water. Tank: 20–40 litres; planted with mosses, fine-leaf plants, and leaf litter. Feeding: Biofilm, algae, blanched vegetables, and shrimp pellets. Breeding: Prolific; females carry 15–30 eggs; hatchlings are miniature copies of adults. Compatibility: Peaceful; good with small fish, snails, and other Neocaridina or Caridina species.
