Caridina babaulti var. 'Striped'
Also known as: Striped Babaulti Shrimp, Indian Striped Shrimp
Origin: India and Sri Lanka
The striped morph of Caridina babaulti is the natural wild-type color form of this Indian freshwater shrimp, featuring a pale cream to beige body with a prominent dark dorsal stripe running from rostrum to tail. This unmodified natural appearance offers hobbyists a window into the original ecology of the species. Hardy and adaptable compared to fancy Caridina, C. babaulti striped tolerates a wider range of water parameters and is an excellent choice for those new to the Caridina genus. An active grazer of biofilm and algae, it contributes meaningfully to tank maintenance and reproduces readily in well-maintained planted aquariums.
Water: pH 6.5–7.5, TDS 100–250 ppm, temperature 22–28°C; soft to moderately hard water acceptable. Tank: 20–40 litres; planted with leaf litter and mosses for grazing surfaces. Feeding: Biofilm, algae, blanched vegetables, shrimp pellets. Breeding: Prolific; females brood 15–30 eggs; juveniles independent from birth. Compatibility: Peaceful; compatible with small non-predatory fish and invertebrates.
