Caridina multidentata
Origin: Japan, Taiwan, Southeast Asia
Amano Shrimp (Caridina multidentata) were popularised by Takashi Amano and remain the gold standard for algae control in planted aquariums. Their tireless grazing of hair algae, thread algae, and BBA is unmatched by any other shrimp. Large (up to 5 cm) and transparent with brown dashes.
Adaptable to a wide range of water conditions — more tolerant than other Caridina. Keep in groups of 5+ for best algae control. Feed algae wafers and blanched vegetables when algae runs low. Cannot breed in freshwater (larvae require brackish). Do NOT use copper medications.
