Caridina multidentata var. 'Longfin'
Also known as: Longfin Amano Shrimp, Amano Shrimp Longfin
Origin: Selectively bred; base species from Japan, Korea, Taiwan
Caridina multidentata — the Amano Shrimp — is legendary in the planted aquarium hobby for its unrivaled algae-eating ability and general tank-cleaning effectiveness. The Longfin variant is a selectively bred form that retains the full cleaning power and peaceful temperament of the standard Amano while displaying elegantly elongated fins across the body. A rare and premium offering, Longfin Amano Shrimp are considerably harder to source than the standard form and command a higher price. They require moderately soft, slightly acidic to neutral water and a planted aquarium with abundant algae, biofilm, and supplemental food. An extraordinary specimen for serious planted tank enthusiasts.
Water: pH 6.5–7.5, TDS 150–300 ppm, temperature 20–26°C; moderately soft, slightly acidic to neutral preferred. Tank: 40+ litres; planted with accessible algae growth; moderate to strong filtration. Feeding: Algae, biofilm, blanched vegetables, and premium shrimp pellets; avoid overfeeding. Breeding: Marine larvae; cannot complete lifecycle in freshwater; wild-caught or hatchery specimens only. Compatibility: Peaceful; excellent community shrimp; avoid housing with large predatory fish.
