Caulastrea furcata
Origin: Indo-Pacific
Caulastrea furcata, the Candy Cane or Trumpet Coral, is one of the most beginner-friendly LPS corals available, forming clusters of trumpet-shaped green polyps with white or contrasting colour centres. It is notably peaceful — lacking the sweeper tentacles of many LPS corals — making it safe to place near other corals with minimal risk of aggressive contact. An excellent first LPS coral that grows steadily in most established reef systems.
Low to medium PAR (50–200). Gentle to moderate flow. Alk 8–10 dKH, Ca 400–450 ppm, temp 24–27°C. Tolerates moderate nutrient levels. Very peaceful — no sweeper tentacles. Target feed Reef Roids or mysis 1× weekly directly onto polyps for faster growth. One of the most reliably hardy LPS corals available. Frag by sawing between polyp clusters.
