Nomorhamphus liemi
Also known as: Celebes Halfbeak, Celebes Sailfin Halfbeak
Origin: Sulawesi, Indonesia
Nomorhamphus liemi is endemic to Sulawesi, Indonesia, where it inhabits clear, fast-flowing mountain streams and still lowland pools. Unlike most halfbeaks, males possess a fleshy lobe on the lower jaw that adds to their unusual appearance. It is a livebearer that tolerates a range of conditions but thrives in slightly hard, neutral to alkaline water.
Water: 22–28 °C, pH 7.0–8.0, moderately hard (GH 8–20); freshwater to very mild brackish. Tank: 60 L minimum with tight-fitting lid; surface plants for cover; gentle circulation. Feeding: Omnivorous surface feeder; floating flake, dried insects, frozen mosquito larvae, and Daphnia. Behaviour: Peaceful livebearer; males may spar gently; keep in a ratio of 1 male to 2+ females. Compatibility: Community fish; compatible with mid-level peaceful species; avoid boisterous tankmates.
