Carassius auratus
Origin: Captive bred
The Celestial Eye Goldfish has eyes permanently directed upward, giving it a distinctive dreamy appearance. This red variety has no dorsal fin and a smooth streamlined body. Because of its upward-facing eyes, it relies on smell and water movement to locate food dropped from above. Must be kept in tanks free of sharp decor or boisterous tank mates that could injure its vulnerable eyes.
Keep in a bare or very soft-substrate tank free of sharp objects — the protruding eyes are easily injured. House only with other slow fancy goldfish. Feed sinking or pre-soaked foods dropped directly in front of the fish. Provide excellent filtration and regular water changes. Avoid mixing with active goldfish varieties that will outcompete it for food.
