Teleocichla centisquama
Also known as: Centisquama Teleocichla, Tapajós Dwarf Cichlid, Rheophilic Dwarf Cichlid
Origin: South America
Teleocichla centisquama is a remarkable cichlid endemic to the rocky rapids and fast-flowing sections of the Tapajós River in Brazil. Unlike most dwarf cichlids it is strongly rheophilic, meaning it requires well-oxygenated, fast-moving water in the aquarium. Its elongated streamlined body and patterned fins make it a truly unusual and captivating species for the specialist.
Water: 25-29°C, pH 6.0-7.5, soft to moderately soft (GH 2-8); high oxygenation and flow essential. Tank: 80L minimum, smooth rounded boulders, minimal fine substrate, strong filtration and current. Feeding: omnivore — live/frozen foods; quality sinking pellets and wafers. Behaviour: territorial; males aggressive to conspecifics; keep singly or one pair. Compatibility: rheophilic biotope tank; other current-adapted species from Tapajós.
