Chanchito Cichlid

Australoheros facetus is a tough, adaptable cichlid from the rivers of Argentina and Uruguay with an extraordinary temperature tolerance range. Its vertical banding and ability to display brilliant spawning colouration make it both attractive and interesting. Long kept in the hobby as one of the most accessible South American cichlids.

Water: 16-26°C, pH 6.5-8.0, moderately hard water tolerated. Tank: Minimum 200L, rocks, caves and driftwood; avoid delicate plants. Feeding: Omnivore; quality pellets, frozen foods, vegetables, earthworms. Behaviour: Semi-aggressive; pairs can be kept with similarly sized robust fish. Compatibility: Suitable with other subtropical South American cichlids; avoid very small species.
