Cherax destructor
Origin: Australia (captive-bred)
The Blue Yabby is a vivid blue color form of Cherax destructor, one of Australia's most widespread native crayfish. Its bold coloration combined with a robust, large build makes it a commanding centrepiece in a species-specific aquarium. It is highly adaptable to a wide range of water parameters and temperatures, making it one of the more forgiving large freshwater invertebrates in the hobby.
Keep in a species-only tank or with robust, fast-moving fish too large to be caught. Provide hiding places such as caves and PVC tubes as crayfish are territorial and will fight if crowded. Feed a varied omnivore diet including sinking pellets, blanched vegetables, and occasional protein. Do not keep with other crayfish unless the tank is very large with clear territorial boundaries.
