Puntius titteya
Origin: Sri Lanka (endemic to southwestern rainforest streams)
The female Cherry Barb has a more subdued gold-brown body with a distinct horizontal brown stripe, providing an attractive contrast to the vivid males in a mixed group. A peaceful and undemanding species endemic to the forested streams of southwestern Sri Lanka. Best kept in mixed sex groups to fully appreciate the colour contrast between males and females.
Keep in groups of 6+ with at least equal numbers of females to males. Provide planted tank with some shade — will show best colour in soft, slightly acidic water. Feed quality micro-pellets, small frozen foods, and flake. Very peaceful with all similarly-sized fish. Hardy and adaptable — a great beginner barb.
