Puntius titteya
Origin: Sri Lanka (endemic to southwestern rainforest streams)
The breeding male Cherry Barb displays a stunning deep cherry-red colouration across its entire body, making it one of the most colourful small barbs in the hobby. A peaceful and undemanding species endemic to the forested streams of southwestern Sri Lanka. Males colour up most intensely when kept with females in well-planted aquariums.
Keep in groups of 6+ with a ratio of at least 1:2 male to female to prevent harassment. Provide planted cover with open swimming areas. Feed quality micro-pellets, small frozen foods, and flake. Hardy and adaptable across a wide pH range. One of the safest and most rewarding barbs for beginners.
