Ctenochaetus hawaiiensis
Origin: Hawaii, Pacific Ocean
The Chevron Tang is one of the most prized bristletooth tangs in the hobby. Juveniles display a brilliant orange body covered with intricate blue chevron-shaped markings that gradually transform into fine horizontal lines with age. The dramatic juvenile-to-adult color transition is fascinating to observe over time. A hardy Hawaiian species that is a highly effective detritus and algae grazer in reef systems.
Requires a spacious aquarium with plenty of open swimming room and regular herbivore feeding. Provide a diet rich in nori seaweed, spirulina, and mixed algae sheets daily. Best kept as the sole Ctenochaetus in a tank to avoid aggression with congeners. House with peaceful tank mates; generally not aggressive toward non-tangs.
