Boraras brigittae
Also known as: Chili Rasbora, Mosquito Rasbora, Blood Rasbora
Origin: Southern Borneo, Indonesia
Boraras brigittae — often sold as the Chili Rasbora — is one of the most iconic nano fish in the hobby. Native to peat swamps and blackwater streams of southern Borneo, it thrives in heavily tannin-stained, soft, acidic water. Males are more intensely coloured and display to each other constantly, making a large school mesmerising to watch.
Water: 22–28 °C, pH 4.0–7.0, very soft (GH 1–8). Tank: 20 L minimum; dense planting, leaf litter, dark substrate, dim lighting. Feeding: Accepts micro pellets, baby brine shrimp, and crushed flake; feed twice daily. Behaviour: Peaceful micro schooler; keep 10+ for best colouration and confidence. Compatibility: Nano shrimp (larger than fry), other Boraras, CPD; avoid any fish over 4 cm.
