Beaufortia kweichowensis
Origin: China
Beaufortia kweichowensis, the Chinese Hillstream Loach, is a suckermouth loach from rocky Chinese mountain streams. Its disc-like silhouette and sucker mouth allow it to cling to smooth surfaces in raging currents. An excellent algae and biofilm grazer, it keeps glass, rocks, and driftwood spotless. Peaceful with other fish; needs cool, well-oxygenated water. A captivating addition to a hillstream biotope alongside fast-water Danio and Devario species.
Strong flow and high dissolved oxygen are mandatory. Keep at 18–22 °C. Provide smooth boulders, flat slate, and algae growth. Feed algae wafers and blanched spinach. Avoid fine sand — prefers gravel/pebble substrate. Sensitive to high nitrates.
