Oryzias sinensis
Origin: China, Korea, Vietnam
Oryzias sinensis, the Chinese Ricefish, is a hardy and adaptable surface dweller from China and surrounding regions closely resembling the Japanese Medaka. Notably tolerant of cool water temperatures, it is an excellent choice for unheated aquariums in temperate climates. Active and social, it is easy to breed and maintain, making it ideal for nano tanks and coldwater setups.
No heating required for temperatures of 15–25°C. Keep in groups of 8+ in a planted nano or small aquarium. Feed micro-pellets, daphnia, artemia nauplii, and small flake. Easy to breed — females carry eggs attached to the anal fin before depositing them on plants. Peaceful with all similarly-sized fish. Excellent for beginners.
