The Chocolate Oranda displays an attractive warm brown coloration that deepens with a high-quality diet rich in carotenoids. Its wen develops well in stable, clean water conditions. This variety is considered intermediate in difficulty as the wen requires monitoring for bacterial infection and the fish is sensitive to poor water quality.
Water: 10–22°C, pH 6.5–7.5, 0 ammonia/nitrite, weekly 25% water changes recommended. Tank: minimum 150 L, gentle filtration to avoid stressing the flowing fins. Feeding: sinking pellets with colour-enhancers, blanched vegetables, occasional live foods. Behaviour: docile and slow; competes poorly with faster fish for food. Compatibility: other fancy goldfish; avoid any species that may nip at the wen.
