Christmas Tree Worm

Spirobranchus giganteus is one of the most iconic reef creatures, featuring twin spiral plumes of vivid coloration — ranging from white and yellow to red and blue — that it extends to filter plankton and suspended particles from the water column. It is sold attached to a coral or rock fragment and, once established, is relatively hardy and long-lived. The dual helical crowns retract instantly when disturbed, providing a dynamic living display.

Handle the rock fragment carefully during acclimation. Provide a moderate-flow area where suspended particles and plankton are available. Supplement with liquid reef nutrition or phytoplankton to encourage healthy plume extension. Avoid aggressive tank mates that may nip at the exposed plumes. Do not touch the plumes directly.
