Chromidotilapia guntheri
Origin: West Africa (Sierra Leone to Gabon)
Chromidotilapia guntheri, Günther's Cichlid, is a medium-sized West African cichlid with a silvery body and a distinctive lateral row of dark blotches. Unique among cichlids in that both parents share mouthbrooding duties, trading the young between them. A relatively peaceful cichlid suitable for larger community tanks with robust tankmates. Males develop a nuchal hump when mature. Indigenous to coastal rivers from Sierra Leone to Gabon.
Pair in 150+ L with caves and open swimming areas. Temperature 24–28 °C, neutral to slightly acidic soft water preferred. Feed quality cichlid pellets, frozen meaty foods. Tolerant of most tankmates. Easy to breed for patient keepers.
