Cichlasoma beani
Also known as: Cichlasoma beani, Sinaloa Cichlid, Bean's Cichlid
Origin: Central America
Cichlasoma beani has a restricted range along the Pacific coast of Sinaloa state in Mexico, living in warm, clear rivers and lagoons. It is a mid-sized cichlid with an attractive mottled pattern of olive, green, and brown with faint iridescent scales. It is considered moderately peaceful by cichlid standards and can be housed with other suitably sized tank mates. Captive breeding is possible but requires patience as this species is uncommon in collections.
Water: 22–28°C, pH 7.0–8.0, moderate hardness (GH 8–20). Tank: 300L minimum; sandy substrate with rock caves and driftwood for shelter. Feeding: Omnivore; pellets, frozen foods, and occasional plant matter or spirulina. Behaviour: Semi-aggressive; calmer than many large CA cichlids; pairs maintain tight bonds. Compatibility: Can be kept with robust mid-to-large cichlids; avoid small or fragile tank mates.
