Apistogramma cinilabra
Also known as: Cinilabra Apisto, Cinilabra Dwarf Cichlid
Origin: South America
Apistogramma cinilabra was formally described from the Loreto department of Peru and stands out for its unusual lip structure, which may be related to specialised feeding behaviour. Males display a striking metallic blue-green body sheen and richly patterned fins. Water quality must be carefully managed as this species is sensitive to sub-optimal conditions.
Water: 24-29°C, pH 5.0-6.8, soft (GH 1-6); consistent water quality critical. Tank: 60L minimum, sand substrate, caves, driftwood, and dense planting. Feeding: omnivore — live/frozen microfoods strongly preferred; small cichlid pellets. Behaviour: territorial during breeding; keep as pair or harem (1M:2-3F). Compatibility: species tank preferred; may work with non-competitive small tetras.
