Macrognathus circumcinctus
Origin: Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia
Macrognathus circumcinctus, the Half-Banded Spiny Eel, is a smaller and more manageable spiny eel from Southeast Asia featuring an attractive pattern of dark saddles or half-bands along its body. A nocturnal burrower that hides in sand during the day. Peaceful with fish too large to be eaten, it is a fascinating oddity for community tanks and biotope setups.
Provide a deep, soft sand substrate for burrowing — essential for this species' well-being. Feed live and frozen meaty foods: bloodworms, earthworms, small crustaceans. Provide caves and driftwood for daytime hiding. Secure tank lid — spiny eels are escape artists. Do not mix with very small fish they might eat at night.
