Gobiodon citrinus
Origin: Indo-Pacific
Gobiodon citrinus, the Citron or Lemon Coral Goby, is a vivid lemon-yellow goby that lives obligately within the branches of Acropora and other SPS corals. Barely 5 cm, it spends its entire life sheltered in coral branches and feeds on mucus and small zooplankton. Completely reef safe and one of the few goby species that actually benefits coral by defending it from crown-of-thorns starfish and other attackers. Produces a toxic mucus coating that makes it distasteful to predators.
Requires a host Acropora or similar branching SPS coral. Standard reef parameters. Feed frozen mysis and baby brine shrimp. Peaceful with all fish. Pairs form easily and spawn in the coral branches. Tiny — provide a reef with complex structure.
