Dascyllus carneus
Origin: Indian Ocean, Maldives, Sri Lanka, Mauritius
Dascyllus carneus, the Cloudy or Indian Ocean Humbug, is a paler-coloured relative of the Humbug Dascyllus, featuring a whitish to grey body with diffuse dark bands. It is endemic to the Indian Ocean, particularly around the Maldives, Sri Lanka, and Mauritius. Well suited to reef aquariums with appropriate community inhabitants, it is active and bold while remaining manageable in small groups.
Keep in groups of 3 or more to distribute aggression. Provide coral heads and rockwork as shelter and territory. Feed a varied omnivore diet of frozen foods and pellets daily. Can become territorial toward other damsels and small, passive fish — monitor in a community setting. Hardy and reef-safe.
