Barbodes everetti
Also known as: Clown Barb
Origin: Southeast Asia (Borneo, Sumatra)
Barbodes everetti inhabits slow to moderately flowing rivers and streams in Borneo and the Riau Archipelago of Sumatra. It is a larger barb growing to around 12 cm with a deep-bodied, robust form. The warm orange-red body is patterned with three to four large, irregular dark blotches that recall the markings of a clown fish — hence its common name. It is an active, social species that benefits from being kept in groups.
Water: 24–28°C, pH 6.0–7.5, soft to moderate (GH 5–15); prefers slightly warmer conditions. Tank: 200 L minimum; robust, large-leaved or hardy plants; driftwood and open swimming areas. Feeding: Omnivore; quality pellets, flake, algae wafers, frozen and live foods. Behaviour: Semi-aggressive; keep in groups of 5–6 minimum; may nip fins of slow-moving tankmates. Compatibility: Best with robust medium-to-large cyprinids, loaches, and catfish; avoid fragile or small fish.
