Synodontis decorus
Also known as: Clown Squeaker, Clown Synodontis
Origin: Africa (Congo basin)
Synodontis decorus is native to the Congo River basin and is one of the larger and more dramatically patterned synodontis species. Its jet-black body is adorned with large, crisp white-to-cream spots, and it develops a pronounced elongated dorsal fin ray with age. A robustly built catfish that does best in large aquariums with plenty of cover, it is particularly popular in African cichlid setups.
Water: 22–26°C, pH 6.0–7.5, soft to moderately hard (GH 5–15). Tank: 200 L minimum; caves, driftwood, and robust décor for shelter. Feeding: Sinking pellets, large algae wafers, frozen bloodworm, shrimp, and prawns. Behaviour: Primarily nocturnal; territorial with conspecifics; generally ignores dissimilar species. Compatibility: Good with medium to large cichlids, large tetras, and other robust African fish.
