About

Apistogramma cacatuoides 'Double Red' is a selectively bred form whose males display an intensified crimson wash across both the dorsal and caudal fins. This hardy dwarf cichlid adapts well to moderately soft water and makes an excellent centrepiece for a planted South American biotope. Males establish small territories and perform elaborate courtship displays.

Care Guide

Keep 1 male with 2–3 females in a planted aquarium with caves. Feed live/frozen bloodworms, artemia, micro-pellets. Moderately soft water preferred but adaptable. Females become very defensive around eggs and fry. One of the hardiest and most beginner-accessible Apistogramma — excellent starting point for dwarf cichlid enthusiasts.
