Carassius auratus
Also known as: Comet Goldfish, Comet-tail Goldfish, American Comet
Origin: USA
The Comet Goldfish was developed in the United States in the late 19th century and is distinguished from the common goldfish by its deeply forked, elongated single tail fin and slimmer body. It is one of the fastest-swimming goldfish and is well-adapted to pond life. Its active nature and large adult size make it unsuitable for small aquariums.
Water: 10–22°C, pH 6.5–7.5, excellent for outdoor ponds; tolerates cold winters well. Tank: minimum 200 L; garden ponds are strongly preferred for long-term health. Feeding: quality pellets, live worms, plant material — active fish with high metabolic needs. Behaviour: fast, energetic, and curious; will leap at feeding time. Compatibility: other comets, common goldfish, shubunkin, and koi.
