Pterophyllum scalare
Origin: South America (Amazon basin, captive-bred)
The Common Silver Angelfish is one of the most recognizable aquarium fish in the world, with its distinctive tall, disc-shaped body, flowing fins, and bold vertical striping. It thrives in tall, well-planted aquaria and pairs beautifully with calm South American tank mates. Forms pair bonds and becomes increasingly semi-aggressive when breeding.
Keep in tall aquariums (min. 60cm height) with broad-leaved plants like amazon swords. Feed quality flake, frozen bloodworms, artemia. Maintain soft to neutral water. Will eat very small fish (tetras, fry) — choose tank mates carefully. Pairs will spawn on flat surfaces and guard eggs vigorously. Keep in groups of 6 or as bonded pairs.
