Lepidocephalichthys thermalis is one of the most widespread and commonly encountered spiny loaches in the Indian subcontinent and Southeast Asia. Its series of dark blotches along the lateral line on a pale yellowish-tan body are attractive in a subtle, understated way. Hardy and adaptable, it tolerates a range of water conditions and makes an engaging bottom-dwelling companion in community setups.
Water: 22-28°C, pH 6.0-7.5, soft to moderately hard, gentle flow. Tank: Minimum 60 L, smooth sand substrate, caves and leaf litter. Feeding: Sinking micro-pellets, daphnia, frozen bloodworm, substrate grazer. Behaviour: Active and social in groups; forages near substrate through daylight hours. Compatibility: Fully peaceful; good with small schooling fish and shrimp.
