Altolamprologus compressiceps
Also known as: Compressiceps Cichlid, Compressed Cichlid
Origin: Lake Tanganyika, Africa
Altolamprologus compressiceps is one of the most morphologically distinctive cichlids from Lake Tanganyika, with an extremely laterally compressed body and large eyes positioned high on the head for spotting prey in rocky crevices. Males develop stunning iridescent orange-spotted scaling with age. A slow-growing, long-lived species best suited to an intermediate keeper.
Water: 24-27°C, pH 7.8-9.0, GH 10-20, KH 8-18. Tank: 150L for a pair; tall rock stacks with vertical crevices to mimic cliff habitats. Feeding: Carnivore pellet, frozen Mysis, Artemia, or lance fish; slow eater — ensure it competes for food. Behaviour: Relatively timid; cave spawner; pair bond; will not compete well with boisterous tankmates. Compatibility: Cyprichromis leptosoma, Paracyprichromis nigripinnis, Julidochromis species.
