Chelmon rostratus
Origin: Indo-Pacific
Chelmon rostratus, the Copperband Butterflyfish, is a graceful Indo-Pacific butterflyfish with a long, pointed snout and vivid orange and white vertical banding. Its elongated snout allows it to pick prey from crevices — including the dreaded Aiptasia glass anemone, making it a sought-after biological control. However it is difficult to feed in captivity (often initially refusing frozen foods), sensitive to water quality, and can pick at LPS polyps if underfed. For experienced reefers who do their homework.
Established reef. Will attempt to eat Aiptasia — provide this initially to get feeding started, then transition to frozen mysis and live worm. Pristine water quality essential. May nip LPS and tube worms if hungry. Target-feed separately from aggressive feeders. Not beginner-friendly.
