Chelmon rostratus
Origin: Indo-Pacific
Chelmon rostratus — the copperband butterflyfish — is one of the most elegant marine fish with vertical orange/copper bands and a distinctive false eye spot. It is prized as a biological control for Aiptasia glass anemones, which it probes with its long, narrow snout. However, it is a delicate species, prone to stress and often refusing to eat prepared foods. Only experienced keepers with well-established, mature reef systems should attempt to keep this species.
ADVANCED. Mature reef (12+ months). Often refuses dried foods — offer live or frozen brine, mysis, Aiptasia. Sensitive to water quality. Will pick at LPS polyps — monitor carefully.
