Stenopus hispidus
Origin: Tropical Indo-Pacific, Caribbean
Stenopus hispidus, the Coral Banded Shrimp, is a large, boldly coloured marine shrimp with vivid red-and-white banding and long white antennae. Territorial and aggressive toward conspecifics — only keep as a mated pair or singly. Functions as a cleaner shrimp but is less active in that role than Lysmata species.
Only one per tank unless a verified mated pair. Reef-safe with corals but may bother small shrimp. Provide rockwork caves. Hardy and adaptable to standard reef water parameters. Supplement diet with mysis and chopped seafood. Avoid keeping with mantis shrimp — will be destroyed.
