Pomacanthus zonipectus
Origin: Gulf of California, Eastern Pacific
The Cortez Angelfish is a large Pacific angel endemic to the Gulf of California and nearby Eastern Pacific coast. Adults display a grayish body with bold yellow vertical bars and a bright yellow tail, while juveniles show striking concentric white-and-blue stripes on a dark body. An uncommon species in the hobby that serves as a dramatic centerpiece in very large marine systems.
Requires a very spacious system of 550 L or more with ample open swimming room. Feed a rich omnivore diet including algae sheets, mysis, quality marine pellets, and sponge-based angel formula daily. Like other large Pomacanthus, may nip at corals and should generally be kept in FOWLR systems. Generally compatible with most fish of similar or larger size.
