Corydoras paleatus
Origin: South America (southeastern Brazil, Uruguay, Argentina)
Corydoras paleatus, the Peppered Cory, is a foundational aquarium species and one of the first corydoras to be kept and bred in captivity. It features a marbled pattern of dark green-black blotching on a silvery-white body and is celebrated for its peaceful, sociable nature. An ideal beginner species that adapts to a broad range of cooler community aquarium conditions — one of the hardiest of all corydoras.
Provide fine sand substrate. Keep in groups of 6+. Feed sinking wafers, frozen bloodworms, and small meaty foods. Tolerates cooler water than most cories (18–24°C) — suitable for unheated tanks in temperate homes. Very easy to breed: condition with live foods and partial water change with cooler water triggers spawning.
