Cambarellus patzcuarensis sp. Orange
Also known as: CPO Pair, Dwarf Orange Crayfish Pair, CPO Breeding Pair
Origin: Mexico (captive bred)
This listing offers a proven male-female pair of Cambarellus patzcuarensis sp. 'Orange' (CPO) selected for strong tangerine-orange coloration and demonstrated compatibility. Breeding pairs of CPO are ideal for dedicated nano breeding projects where the keeper wishes to establish a self-sustaining captive population and, over time, select for the brightest orange individuals.
The CPO is one of the most beginner-friendly crayfish for breeding, with females producing small but manageable clutches of eggs brooded under the pleopods. Juveniles are independent miniature crayfish from hatching and can be raised in the same tank as parents if sufficient plant cover and shelter is provided. A 40 L planted tank with moss, caves, and fine substrate provides the ideal setup for a breeding pair.
Males can occasionally become persistent with females, so providing caves and visual barriers is important to prevent female stress. The brilliant orange of both sexes intensifies with age and good nutrition, making this one of the most rewarding small crayfish to breed for colour selection.
Water: 18–27°C, pH 7.0–8.0, GH 5–15, KH 2–10; consistent moderate hardness for breeding success. Tank: minimum 40 L, planted with moss, fine substrate, caves for female refuge and juvenile shelter. Feeding: omnivore — nano sinking pellets, algae wafers, blanched greens, calcium supplement for breeding. Breeding: female broods 20–60 eggs; juveniles independent from hatching; feed powdered food to juveniles. Compatibility: pair only — avoid additional male CPO; compatible with small nano fish over 3 cm.
