Poecilia sphenops var.
Also known as: Creamsicle Molly, Orange and White Molly
Origin: Captive bred
The Creamsicle Molly is a captive variety of Poecilia sphenops named for its resemblance to the orange-and-cream frozen dessert. The body displays softly blended patches or gradients of warm orange and creamy white, with the distribution varying between individuals and giving the strain a pleasingly varied appearance within a single group.
This is a newer and somewhat less common molly variety that offers a softer, more pastel alternative to the bold solid colours of black or orange mollies. The creamsicle pattern is particularly attractive in well-lit planted aquariums where the warm tones contrast with green foliage.
All standard molly husbandry applies — hard, slightly alkaline, lightly saline water and an algae-rich diet are the keys to long-term health and vibrant colouration.
Water: 23–28 °C, pH 7.5–8.5, hard and lightly saline; consistent water quality reduces stress. Tank: 80 L minimum; plants and open swimming space; standard molly community setup. Feeding: Algae-based flake with carotenoid colour-enhancing foods; vegetable supplements beneficial. Breeding: Prolific; pattern distribution in fry varies between orange-dominant and cream-dominant. Compatibility: Peaceful community fish; compatible with other molly varieties and hard-water species.
