Yunnanilus cruciatus
Origin: China (Yunnan Province)
Yunnanilus cruciatus is a small, attractively patterned loach from Yunnan Province, China, with a boldly contrasting brown and cream cross-banded pattern. Unlike many hillstream loaches, it inhabits still to slow-moving, heavily vegetated waters, making it more accessible to planted-tank keepers. A peaceful and unusual addition to a subtropical planted tank.
Keep in groups of 6+. Prefers cooler subtropical water (18–24°C). Provide dense planting and gentle flow. Feed micro-pellets, frozen daphnia, artemia, and small frozen foods. Does not require fast current unlike true hillstream loaches. Compatible with peaceful subtropical species. Rarely seen in trade — a genuine find.
