Nandopsis tetracanthus

Nandopsis tetracanthus is the largest cichlid native to Cuba and the only cichlid endemic to the island. It inhabits rivers, lakes, and lagoons throughout Cuba, where it is apex predator among native fish. Its cream to white body is patterned with irregular dark blotches and rows of spots. Although less commonly available than mainland Central American cichlids, it is highly prized among dedicated hobbyists and is legally protected in Cuba.
Water: 22–28°C, pH 7.0–8.0, moderate hardness (GH 8–18). Tank: 600L+ for adults; minimal decor; robust filtration — large and extremely messy. Feeding: Carnivore; large pellets, whole prey fish, earthworms, large crustaceans. Behaviour: Extremely aggressive and territorial; best housed alone; even paired fish must be watched closely. Compatibility: Species-only recommended; not compatible with any but the largest and most robust cichlids.
